Following Elsevier's decision to raise the article processing charge for NeuroImage to $3,450, all editors (inc. chief editors) from NeuroImage and NeuroImage:Reports have resigned, effective immediately.

I am joining this action and have also resigned.

Words fail me. It's an operating system! Why TF is an operating system tracking me??

How does anyone think that this is acceptable behavior?

And the reason I learned this? Our group security policy settings were published for comment and disabling this is one of the settings... We now have to do extra work to secure an already flakey virus riddled POS!

This should fix it.

Our Community, Our Courier! Keep The Ballarat Courier Ethical.

Regional and local media is more important than ever. Our regional communities need and deserve journalism that is ethical, independent and trustworthy. Australian Community Media - which owns over 100 regional papers including Ballarat's 'The Courier' is trying to cut important conditions from the workers' Enterprise Agreement. One of these cuts includes walking away from the paper's commitment to abide by the MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics protects sources,...

People like “that’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back” as if we would have been diligently editing Wikipedia or fixing your bathroom sink with that hour. No, we would have been watching Instagram Reels of people falling down and we know it.

So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.

If you go to https://spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction

Space Karen Sucks

Free speech really should be free. To bypass the new censorship regime at twitter, use this URL shortener to link to Mastodon or other censored destinations. Considering recent policy decisions on twitter, please be aware that use of links generated from this site may constitute a violation of their policy.

I keep seeing people say Mastodon is nothing like Twitter. And they’re right.

Mastodon is an echo of the old internet, it’s decentralised, chaotic. What you get depends on your sysadmin. You can’t search, everything has to be shared to you by a human. Networks split apart and rejoin. What you see is your unique connection to it.

Is this good? Maybe. But for me that’s the internet I grew up with. No algorithms, no targeted adverts, just human interaction, and it was glorious.

A reddish egret having a bad hair day!
They are native to Central America, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexico and the Gulf Coast of the United States. They were hunted for their plumage and by 1900 had almost been wiped out in North America but are now making a comeback.

Never forget that when #Seoul, Korea removed the #Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 and replaced it with a restored stream and a 1000 acre park in the city’s centre, not only did it completely transform the city’s public life & economic success, but when combined with public transit improvements, the vehicle traffic congestion actually got better.

The traffic got BETTER!
