I spend far too much time thinking about power relationships in the abstract, overthinking the forest and missing the trees completely.

I really struggle to connect with people, I don't know why.
Chronic depression and mild autism probably don't help.

Avatar is me, with goggles and bandana, hanging upside down in a park.

"where were all the trans people before?"

We hid. And if we didn't hide, we died.
- we were deemed clinically insane.
- we we imprisoned.
- we were put in institutions.
- we were forcibly medically castrated.
- we were tortured with electric shocks.
- we were hunted down and killed.
- our murderers claimed "panic" and were set free.
- many of us chose the "easy way out" instead.

Helping trans people exist is good, actually.

@mullvadnet It's almost as if what we the people tell them, over and over again, doesn't matter squat.

We lost control of our governments.

We are not democracies any more.

The European Commission lost the Chat Control 2.0 battle over access to end-to-end encrypted data. By the summer 2026, they will be back with their next attempt: Going Dark. This time some EU member states want to include VPN services.

The Going Dark initiative, or ProtectEU as the Commission now calls it, wants to ā€œenable law enforcement authorities to access encrypted data in a lawful mannerā€. This is a Chat Control 3.0 attempt.

@mullvadnet They will never stop either. The yearning to control ā€for safetyā€ is a built-in bug of the authoritarian mind.

The other side of the desire to rule is the yearning to submit.

How do I keep a WebSocket connection alive in a Progressive Web App?

My PWA is playing audio.
Every now end then the server must tell the PWA to switch to a new sound.
How do I make the connection stay up even if the mobile screen is locked?

What are the minimum requirements to convince Android/iOS to keep the WebSocket alive while the screen is locked (assuming there is a way)?

Dear Fediverse, I recently acquired a second-hand #guitar that I had "love at first sight" for as soon as I saw it online. It really is lovely to play, but I know very little about it, though, except that it's from a now defunct brand called #Dreambow. I can't find any other name or serial. Do you know what model it might be, and/or year? It definitely is a single cut, but it's not a Les Paul replica as you can see in the picture. Please help me boost this until it reaches someone who knows šŸ˜…

@PhoenixSerenity if you enjoyed glory hammer check out nanowar of steel: https://youtu.be/S9WWz95ripA

The singer of glory hammer shows up as Thor in the music video and it's appropriate for the season, especially if you are sick of Christmas music and want to hear some talented spoof of the genre.

In #Alaska, nature sculpted this lone tree into a frozen wave at sunrise.
Relentless wind, drifting snow, and rime ice stacked layer by layer until the branches looked like feathers made of frost.
That soft golden glow is the sun catching every icy strand, turning the whole scene into a winter sculpture for a few brief moments.
Bent by the storm, but still standing. Still reaching.

Anna's Archive backed up Spotify. They got 99.9% of metadata, and 300TB of music representing 86 million tracks - original 160kbps OGG for tracks with popularity>0, and re-encoded 75kbps for popularity=0. absolutely wild project.

the metadata in particular is a hugely useful data source. MusicBrainz catalogues 5 million unique ISRCs (like ISBNs but for music releases), whereas this archive has a whopping 186 million.

Backing up Spotify

We backed up Spotify (metadata and music files). It’s distributed in bulk torrents (~300TB). It’s the world’s first ā€œpreservation archiveā€ for music which is fully open (meaning it can easily be mirrored by anyone with enough disk space), with 86 million music files, representing around 99.6% of listens.
