Dear @EUCommission

Please listen to us, the whole collective cybersecurity space, the ones actively protecting our personal, professional and government data everyday when we tell you:

There is no way you can make data available to law enforcement that doesn't - massively - make it much easier for adversaries to access it too.

Anyone who tells you different don't know what they're talking about.

That's all.

The EU initiative Going Dark has now been launched by the EU Commission. They call it ProtectEU. It’s a rebranding of Chat Control. New name. Same old propaganda. The EU Commission’s goal is to “access encrypted data in a lawful manner, safeguarding cybersecurity and fundamental rights.” Read the full release from the Commission here: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52025PC0148

It feels quite uncomfortable that cloudflare is somewhat openly admitting to analysing login credentials that are going through the reverse proxy, and providing aggregated stats on it (without explicit consent of the user it appears?)

Based on Cloudflare's observed traffic between September - November 2024, 41% of successful logins across websites protected by Cloudflare involve compromised passwords.

Don't get me wrong the results are actually pretty interesting, but I just cannot think of a ethical way of doing this, and it feels kind of jarring that they just "did that"

A #debian cry for help: I need to update the packaging for #vcsh to modern standards before the freeze hits. It's trivially easy in theory, but I just lack the spoons.

I keep being laughably busy with really meaningful work, but I can't make the time to sit down a few hours and read.
Three major projects will conclude soon, but then it's likely too late.

Any help or co-maintainers appreciated.

Retoots OK; being vulnerable in public is Good Actually(TM).

This is *the most malicious, brutal* malicious compliance I've seen in quite some time, possibly ever, and I am HERE FOR IT. Thank you, @jwz

Everyone just went to the cloud because they were sick of their fingers getting pinched by these fuckers.

I'm really proud to present my fully documented source code for Elite on the Commodore 64.

This is the original 1985 source, recently released by Ian Bell, with every single line of code explained.

It’s a thing of beauty. Enjoy!

If you think of the problem with the shuttering of Reader being about structure and centralized authority rather than the tech, the objection becomes that Google was trusted by an ecosystem of freely-shared information as stewards of a centralizing resource, and then abandoned that responsibility and ultimately destroyed that provider ecosystem by chasing closed-model capture-profiteering

In that light, what Google did to blogs/rss with Reader is what they’re now doing to the web with search.

Twitch are updating their rules & decided that LGBTQ+ is a "Sensitive social issue" & needs to be hidden behind a content warning.

Obviously this is bad for LGBTQ+ streamers & a slippery slope, so please if you're a twitch user, vote on this feedback petition:

There's a lot more I could have written about this but... look we've all seen this a million times before, we know how it works, how bad actors abuse it to mass report and bully and where it all goes.

This is way too satisfying.
