Twitch are updating their rules & decided that LGBTQ+ is a "Sensitive social issue" & needs to be hidden behind a content warning.

Obviously this is bad for LGBTQ+ streamers & a slippery slope, so please if you're a twitch user, vote on this feedback petition:

https://twitch.uservoice.com/forums/933812-safety/suggestions/49038707-remove-sensitive-social-issues-bullet-point

There's a lot more I could have written about this but... look we've all seen this a million times before, we know how it works, how bad actors abuse it to mass report and bully and where it all goes.

@CanisRufus

the people who should have to label their comments are misogynist, bigots and racist

better, misogynists, bigots and racists should be banned

@CanisRufus Twitch = Bezos, after he ordered WaPo to shit the bed, it shouldn't be a surprise that his other properties are getting MAGAty.
@CanisRufus
We live in a world where letting people be how they wanna be and what makes them the happiest is becoming a "sensitive issue"
@CanisRufus That's easy, if you find this to be a problem, then stop using Twitch. Like if my toaster always burns the toast, time for a new toaster.

@wrath0110 @CanisRufus How about if all toasters burn your toast?

There are many different toasters, but few alternatives to Twitch.

What if they all turn fascist?

Minorities need to fight for rights.

@Tattered @CanisRufus I won't argue that point. But I definitely am in a different position than you are, as I'm not a fan of so-called "social" media. But you do you, ok?
@CanisRufus Enshittification at its best.

@CanisRufus

The site has been against LGBTQ+ for a while, and the biggest reason why I never bothered streaming anything there, even for fun.

@CanisRufus Queer folk are no more "sensitive issues" than straight folk.

I've voted to remove this nonsense. If you ever use Twitch, then I invite you to do the same.

@CanisRufus this is like labeling Judaism as a sensitive social issue in 1930’s Germany. Yes, it upsets a certain group of people but one side wants to exist and the other doesn’t like that. Hardly difficult to figure out where to come down on those human rights 🤦‍♂️
@CanisRufus Well, what about the priority unban of LGBT+ streamers?
@CanisRufus or rather, I meant priority support

@CanisRufus

My comment to this petition:

Please don't do this Twitch, LGBTQIA+ people like me need your help as minorities. The number one factor behind trans suicides is lack of societal acceptance and failing to see where we can ever fit in.

From the Trevor hotline, a suicide prevention hotline I've had to use myself for support, countless times:

"Facts About Suicide Among LGBTQ+ Young People
LGBTQ+ young people are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity but rather placed at higher risk **because of how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society**

https://www.thetrevorproject.org/resources/article/facts-about-lgbtq-youth-suicide/

Your policy is exactly contributing to people like me feeling hopeless and discriminated against for simply existing. Please at least remove this policy and ideally add *more* protection instead of eroding the rights of your LGBTQIA+ community members

@CanisRufus done, we are in the 21st Century not the 17th.

@CanisRufus
I remember they had this back in 2019.
https://www.thegamer.com/twitchcon-partner-party-open-bar-controversy/

Open drink containers laid out on a table, meaning anyone with evil intentions could roofie them, or something else dangerous.

They didn't care, typical dudebro management.
And here we are, 5 years later, and they just find us an "inconvenience".

TwitchCon Partner Party Raises Safety Concerns Over A Very Open Bar

Twitchcon has officially kicked off and already Twitch are coming under fire for a poorly organized Partner Party.

@CanisRufus I voted, and I just cancelled ALL my Twitch subscriptions with the comment (selecting "Other" for the reason brings up a comment box) "Twitch, remove "sensitive social issues" bullet point from Article VII of your Content Classification Guidelines, and I'll consider coming back."
@CanisRufus It's pretty telling that they've closed the voting and comments without changing anything.
