CSS Panjandrum. “Kind and yet ruthless” co-chair of the CSSWG. Lurker on social media.

I’m excited to share a new project from Adobe Spectrum Web Eng that tracks support for #CSS features within and across the shadow DOM. Think “CanIUse” but for CSS for web components.

The goal is to surface how modern CSS behaves when light and shadow DOM contexts meet, providing visibility into feature parity, usage details, and outstanding issues and bugs. We hope it’s a useful resource for the web components community, and we’d love your feedback and contributions!

I am a luddite and to me there is a lot of joy in technology. In technology that we deploy for all our wellbeing. Solar panels and vaccines, high-speed rail and wikipedia.

But they joy stems from the feeling of being able to be part of humanity in an embedded, meaningful way. Not from buying shit.

Starting the new year off with two opportunities to come work with me at Adobe!

Both roles are working on our upcoming Project Graph app: https://blog.adobe.com/en/publish/2025/11/25/introducing-project-graph-creative-workflows-reimagined

I have two roles available right now, more to come later I hope. Both Typescript, one more on the frontend side and another more on the tooling but with a strong frontend JS focus.

We're a #webcomponents project, and heavily into using the latest and greatest from the platform.

Details in🧵 below...

Introducing Project Graph: Creative Workflows Reimagined | Adobe Blog

Project Graph is Adobe’s new visual, node-based creative system that lets you design, connect, and share AI-powered workflows across Creative Cloud—giving creators real control, flexibility, and authorship in the age of generative AI.

Happy holidays, fediverse!

I got you a megathrust earthquake, soil liquefaction, spine-tingling papers about the way our networks confound knowledge, and a PDF in a pear tree. It's my wrap on a year of trying to make sense of how we make sense of what's happening to us.

Landslide; a ghost story

On March 27, 1964, a converted liberty ship named the SS Chena brought a shipment of supplies to the port of Valdez, Alaska. Valdez, which I need you to know is pronounced “valDEEZ,” sits at the end of a fjord—a narrow inlet carved by a glacier.

Dearest SVG nerds, I’m trying to add an animated conic gradient to the background of this logo. I used a `foreignObject` for the gradient. It works fine in firefox and chrome, but as soon as I add a rotation or `position:absolute` to the `foreignObject` the `clipPath` disappears in safari.

Any ideas on how I could fix this? The image will be served as the source of an image tag. I tried adding a rotation or positioning to the `clipPath` as well, but alas …

I’m trying to build myself up. This isn’t bragging; I’m trying to honestly assess my skills and then assert that I am valuable, despite never being paid what I know I’m worth.

A few years ago I shipped a Playdate game with Zero Bugs. The only 3 reported errors occurred after platform changes.

I am the fastest and most-knowledgeable CSS person I’ve ever worked with. By a long shot.

I love collaborating & building others up.

Hire me, please!

"I will face god and walk backwards into hell" - a Dril tweet about yelling at zoo animals.

"You cannot kill me in a way that matters." - a Tumblr shitpost about mushrooms.

"Do you think God stays in heaven because he too lives in fear of what he's created?" - Spy Kids 2, the children's movie.

And now:

"Babies are born worshipping unknown gods." - a Dwarf Fortress bug report.

Any other good candidates?

When you are using the "AI" framing, does the way you talk about "AI" carry water for the Sam Altmans of the world? That is, are you helping to paint a picture of their tech as inevitable, all powerful, and/or anything other than commercial products?

If so, why? Are you under pressure to do so? Where does that pressure come from? What would happen if you resist?

Wow, this campaign website against Google's plan to kick out XSLT is a thing of beauty.
