Empathy tax: Study (N=350) finds 82% of professional women spent at least 30% of workweek listening to anxieties, offering encouragement or monitoring how people are feeling. Many men didn’t see such work happening around them; women described it as commonplace. https://sloanreview.mit.edu/article/the-empathy-tax-female-leaders-pay/
The Empathy Tax Female Leaders Pay

In the past year, emotional labor at work grew for nearly 59% of women. It’s taking a toll on them and their employers.

MIT Sloan Management Review
i'm weary of rebuilding my life, with very few resources, again. but I will accept that the sound isn't perfect, if the alternative is to do nothing
but I'll probably just have to accept that things are noisier and not as open-sounding as I prefer, and live with it

I am disheartened but I will try again later.

it just sucks to have had a surprisingly-Good Setup, and then basically Computer Updates and Entropy made it stop working.

I'm not an expert. I just liked what I had cobbled together

basically to get my old sound I'd need
- a new pre-amp
- a different audio box
- a new mic stand
- for my old mics to still work, which they might but they've been stored for a long time

I gotta accept that I'm not in a pro studio and just want to record myself reading and talking. I also have Zero Money to buy anything else. so I just gotta make it work

I'm trying to remember what I did for YTS recordings; those were with NT1-As in a smaller room and a different interface

so far:
- a few years ago I bought a Rode Podmic, and idk. I love the NT1-A that I have, but all my stands are borken
- audiobox 96 is a little noisy regardless
- my now-ancient TubePre is giving a little hum, but without it the podmic is extremely quiet? like way quieter than I'd expect

:/

also, midi / synth heads: do you know of any small, like 4-12 knob general purpose midi thing? I used to have a big ol' Behringer; I gather they are bad.

Basically I just wanna plug my generic keys into a thing that will let me assign virtual synth knobs for adjusting intrument & plugin params live in Reason / similar

i've been out of the game since 2019: has Propellerhead / Reason Studio done any corporate bullshit I should be aware of before I possibly give them money

you: "good ideas don't matter"

me: solves a software design problem within 10 minutes of being told about it, when the very good and knowledgeable designer was stuck, and 3 other people made very bad suggestions, because I'm good at thinking creatively and reframing problems to route around limitations

but okay go ahead and devalue one of my superpowers

personally, I think ideas matter TREMENDOUSLY, and /also/ if you want an end product you can't just stop at having the ideas

making the thing is also how you validate whether the ideas are good or not

but Good Ideas are actually not as plentiful as some suggest
