Research into Verra, world’s leading #carbon standard for the rapidly growing $2bn voluntary #offset market, found that >90% of rainforest offset credits are likely “phantom credits”, not representing genuine #carbon reductions.

This raises questions over credits bought by several internationally renowned companies – some having labelled products #carbonneutral, or told their consumers they can fly, buy new clothes or eat certain foods worsening the #climatecrisis.

#Carbonfarming, yet another tool used for #offsetting carbon #emissions is shown not to work as claimed: "We conclude that soil-based private carbon certificates are unlikely to deliver the emission offset attributed to them and that their benefit for climate change mitigation is uncertain." -- study by Carsten Paul @ZALF_leibniz, @bartoszbartk et al.(https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36608610/)

As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

Hi everyone!

#Debate is an activity that gives many people a sense of meaning, a place to discuss topics they cannot elsewhere, tools to advocate for themselves, self-confidence, and community.

However, African debaters and debaters who lack resources have been systematically locked out for a long time.

I hope you can be part of the solution by supporting a GoFundMe campaign, created by two of Africa's top debaters to help them compete at the world champs.
