#writersCoffeeClub Mar 2 - Does your overall goal differ from project to project?
Kindasortanotentirely? As per yesterday's prompt, my overall goal is and remains "Get this story to completion" but in practical terms it varies slightly depending on what I'm writing FOR. A script is different to a short story is different to blocking out a game, and even between genres there is variance. I've tried my hand at writing story concepts in genres and styles I've never done before, just to see if I could, so that does influence things.
#WritersCoffeeClub March 1 - What is the fundamental goal you seek to achieve with your current WIP?
To be honest? Finishing it. For all my world building that I do, the number of actual completed stories I've done can be counted on one hand, and that includes short stories and the like. An actual, completed work would be immensely satisfying and also probably go a long way to silencing the detractors inside my own skull. It'd also be a good way to prove that I can, in fact, finish something.
#writerscoffeeclub 2/28- How did this month go for you in terms of writing?
Originally I was going to say that I didn't think it went well all things considered, I had some writing blocks, but upon reflection it actually went a lot better than I realized. While I didn't make any appreciable progress on my big projects, I did a high amount of writing on other things, taking part in some writing challenges and also working on both prepwork and production for the weekly roleplay sessions I run, where a good deal of my more esoteric ideas get exercised and played with before I commit them elsewhere. (Seriously, if you happen to be a MUCKer, you always have a good opportunity to exercise your writing chops!). So, I suppose better than it could have been, and certainly leaves me in a good position to work on my projects next month, obligations notwithstanding.
I have survived another orbit around the sun today. Verily I am an old fart. But I persist! You're stuck with me, suckers! :D
#PennedPossibilities 935 - What are your writing goals for 2026?
I find that setting a very specific goal tends to be the fastest way to ensure I never get a thing done, but I still have a list of want-to-dos to focus on this year.
One, work more on my main story, hopefully to see it to completion sometime this year. If possible maybe tie that into the OTHER large scale writing project I started last year.
Two, work on a few of the world designs I have that have been out of rotation for me.
Three, progress more on the game script I started last year, in the hopes that I can one day turn it into the game I envisioned when I started it.
Four, write more of my game history and retrospective articles, purely as a personal project.
Five, continue my personal yearly writing challenge when November comes around, as I find that's one of the best times for me to stockpile new ideas and experiment a bit.
