Executive Director at UACES. Interested in all things Europe and higher education. She/her.

Trying to spend today really getting to grips with Mastodon and working out how to exist here in a way that is useful to other users and also works within the ethos of users who've been here for a long time, many of whom have come from marginalised groups looking to find a safe social media space.

There's lots of food for thought for us #newbies about how we conduct ourselves, what we share and who is doing the work to keep this platform running.

Are you a #researcher #student or #academic working in #EuropeanStudies or studying #Europe and the #EuropeanUnion? Then a @UACES microgrant might be for you.

They provide up to 500 GBP of funding to support research activities. The next deadline for applications is 30 November.

Find out more at https://www.uaces.org/funding/microgrants.

@theexplorographer thanks so much for helping out us #newbies! Have downloaded #tusky to see how it works for me. I'm not seeing anything in either my local or global fields though...would that be down to server delays do you think?

okay more new user tips

content warnings are extremely important here

they're ingrained in our culture

they're not censorship, but rather consent

they allow someone to decide if they wanna engage with your post, and if so on what terms

they're a courtesy, and you have legiterally no reason to not use them as much as possible

they're one of the best features mastodon has

think of it like a subject line or a title for your post

you're MORE LIKELY to get "engagement" if you use them right

In Europe, October 2022 was by far the warmest ever recorded, beating the previous record by over 0.5⁰C!

This list of #journalists on Mastodon has absolutely taken on a life of its own. 🔥

It's now grown to over 540 journalists and shows no signs of stopping. I do quality control and check it every day to clean up.

#MastodonHelp so I'm an idiot and have managed to forget my password already! I can't login to the website to do any of the helpful things people have been recommending for bringing followers over from Twitter., I've tried resetting lots of times but not receiving the reset email. I assume it's a capacity issue. Anything I can do? I have hardly any followers yet, so am I better starting over than waiting for a password reset email?!
