If we want to combat ableism both out in the world and in ourselves we need to be able to deal with the uncomfortable _reality_ of disability. The reason that disabled people are not less-than, unworthy subhumans is _not_ because we're actually mistaken and actually it's not a disability it's a superpower, we're not weak we're strong, actually everything's fine, no I don't need any help.
The reason that disabled people are perfectly worthy of respect is because *it's fine* to need help.
