New paper by @tomhardwicke and colleagues looks at journal recommendations for statistical reporting guidelines. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00031305.2022.2143897 Good to see recommendations to use p-values are still going strong - the often weak criticisms against them seem not to convince journal editors.
Statistical Guidance to Authors at Top-Ranked Journals across Scientific Disciplines

Scientific journals may counter the misuse, misreporting, and misinterpretation of statistics by providing guidance to authors. We described the nature and prevalence of statistical guidance at 15 ...

Throwing this out into the ether, but, fellow Mastodonites, is there any way to get a timeline for another mastodon instance?

I can see my own local timeline, and the timeline across all instances, but I can't find a way to follow an instance rather than just one specific user on an instance.

Am I missing something?

And not to be opaque, I'm interested in what the mathstodon.xyz people are saying, but also sciences.social, etc...

So, @dapostrophe, what do you think of our new digs?

Just posted a thread on the birdsite about how to move to Mastodon 😁

Moving to Mastodon 101:
1 Sign up for an instance. Choose a server using a directory like https://joinmastodon.org
2 Create your profile
3 Find your people. A great service for this is https://movetodon.org
4 Go to your Mastodon server address or get a Mastodon app to read/post

Really enjoyed #FAIRDataday!

As noted by @martateperek team work was one of the main themes emerging from the #dutchdataprize. Need collaboration and diverse skill sets to make data #fair.

Made some comments about metrics (for data) that seemed to have resonated with colleagues. The research assessment system is moving towards qualitative assessment supported by responsible use of metrics. Let's not repeat the problems created by use of metrics without taking context into account.

Saying not to bother with the favourite button on mastodon because it doesn't affect any algorithm is like saying not to say thank you to someone because no one else will hear.

Stop thinking in those old social media ways of engagement and visibility and algorithms and reach and audience and start thinking about being social.

And BOOST! It's how you saw this, probably!

A favourite is a nice thanks, a boost lets everyone else discover the great thing you discovered too!

And some can't remember anyone no matter what the community is -- e.g., me!

(This is my approach to leaving twitter and hoping folks move to Mastodon: post on Mastodon and put a link in twitter.)
