Holy crap, Jack Conte's presentation at SXSW 2026 hits all the points that I, as a tech enthusiast with deep concerns as a frustrated creator in the age of AI, have been wrestling with. Incredible and insightful.

Highly relevant to #indieweb and #openweb from the human side of things, what we want to make and make possible.

A Conversation with Jack Conte

“A protocol does not need to encode governance explicitly in order to shape it; it shapes governance by determining which mechanisms are easy to build, which are hard, and which are effectively impossible within the constraints the architecture imposes.”

The Purpose of Protocols

Every open social protocol generates shared resources, but none has produced a governance framework adequate to those resources. So who fills that vacuum?

OMG how I loathe the MacOS Command-M and Command-H keyboard shortcuts. I periodically fat-finger these keys and harshes my calm because there's no undo.

I finally found an unexpected way to nuke them not through the system prefs or a utility that only works part of the time, but through Alfred! A workflow that intercepts the keys and does nothing is bliss. Mine plays a purr sound though.

It might be a bit late, but for all of you who like to plan (and print) the year (like me), take a look at @dsri's productivity tools, especially the Compact Calendar - you can follow them on Mastodon, too! https://dsriseah.com/productivity-tools/

I have made a Dark Mode Zulip custom CSS file for the Zulip Desktop App that removes visual clutter and improves the contrast. You may find it a useful starting place for customizing your own Zulip CSS. [...]

@marioguzman As long as the UI is eLeVaTeD to be *on top of* my content, I consider the entire talking point of “elevating your content” complete bullshit.
I've posted my official planning post for Groundhog Day Resolutions 2026 (year 19!) Maybe the 19th time is the charm...

Happy Groundhog Resolutions Day! I'm still recovering from COVID so I'm splitting up my kickoff post into multiple parts; the plan is to make the final version a valentine to myself on February 14 😅
