Read this short paper (3 pages) about how rhythm helps us divide speech into words. In an oral conversation there aren't neat spaces to indicate word breaks.
Then read the paper again once you reach the big reveal at the end :)

Ever since I've focused on Mastodon over Twitter, the one major thing I've said over and over again that was missing (but I was sure was coming) was a Mastodon version of Nuzzel or Tweetshelf. A tool to find what news links your followers are sharing.
And... @decius has just built one! Just released today, so may be buggy, but already looks amazing and INCREDIBLY useful.

This is a FREE teen ebook library card service from the Brooklyn (NY) Public library available nationwide. It was launched to combat book banning.
In April 2022, Brooklyn Public Library joined those fighting for the rights of teens nationwide to read what they like, discover themselves, and form their own opinions. Inspired by the American Library Association's Freedom to Read Statement, Books Unbanned is a response to an increasingly coordinated and effective effort to remove books from library shelves.
Ordinary life:
Have a home.
Live safely.
Have a quality education.
Get a parking ticket.
Go to work.
Have a family (if one wants).
Leave something for your family.
Boring shit.
Systemic racism has interfered with all of that:
Redlining
Police violence & deliberate disinvestment
Cut off access to GI Bill + segregation
Racial profiling
Labor* discrimination
Black maternal mortality
Racial wealth gap
Without hundreds of years of that BS, we'd be fine. Ordinary.
Music = Math = Music
An engaging explanation of how tuning systems (temperaments) impact our perception of music.
An open call to any and all #Fediverse white hats, #hackers & network specialists. Please consider thinking about tools to maintain the ability to #SelfHost an instance under #fascism
"having robust communication tech strategies that work well with intermittent online periods and things like store and forward, batch updates, sneakernet updates and diverse strategies to keep messages flowing in the face of censorship and active disruption will become critical. Small/portable/low power relay systems will be key. Drive/fly/walk-by wireless msg propagation...Alternative might be if censored at hosting inside one country/jurisdiction is to host in another I guess, then try to get around network or other in-country blocking. Become so distributed that individual blocking becomes harder, a whole warfare skillset rabbithole. We should have some more native tools for defenses ready to go and easy to use/teach." #FOSS
