Lecturer - investigating the evolution of AMR. Interested in all aspects of AMR and drug discovery. Also T1D. All views my own.
Capsule serotype effects genetic transfer (but depends on MGE), sensitivity to phage and adaptions of the cell in Klebsiella #MicroEvo22
S. suis evolution driven by increased pig farming and selling between farms/countries, acquiring increased virulence factors. #MicroEvo22
Fantastic first set of talks for #MicroEvo22 this morning! First gene-gene interactions in microbial community by Fiona Whlean, then the evolution of S. suis to gain virulence and infect new niches (humans!) and why and now role of the capsule in evolution

Molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance revisited - Nature Reviews Microbiology

In this Review, Blair, Webber and colleagues explore our understanding of the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, including reduced permeability, antibiotic efflux, modification or alteration of the antibiotic target, modification or destruction of the drug itself, and bypass of metabolic pathways. They also discuss how this information can aid in developing the next generation of antimicrobial therapies.

We're hiring lecturers! Come and join us in the School of Biosciences at the University of Sheffield. We'd particularly love to see some applications from microbiologists with an interest in AMR but the posts are open to the full range of research interests in the School. Happy to informally discuss a possible application if you want to get in touch here or by email
