For #women in #science, our work often gets framed in a way that focuses on gender. It’s not a bad thing, but there’s so much more to who we are.

Many of us didn’t set out trying to be “females in science” so much as simply “scientists” doing research we love.

Our contributions are frequently less about shattering glass ceilings, and more about succeeding at institutions that weren’t built by us or for us.

I've been photographing the night sky with my Pixel 6 Pro trying to find an eerie space where the ground and the sky meet...
Here are a few from last night.
From tonight. There were clouds. The stone was carved by people about 6000 years ago, and then carved again and placed there by people a hundred years ago.

@Sheril Still too much of a newbie to offer an any informed opinion but what I have found that is somewhat problematic is when I try to follow someone who is not in my instance it can be difficult. I see several people belonging to more than one 'instance'. I don't know if that can work better. I do have lists which I do find useful. What I find problematic there is that it only seems to post recent 'toots'. Again boobie here.

A number of folks keep suggesting joining a smaller instance. Yes, there are so many appealing options, but at the same time, I'm not sure why I'd move. I've really been enjoying the mastodon.social community and have very interdisciplinary interests. (I'm a scientist, occasional journalist, and love the arts).

What are your experiences with large vs small #Mastodon instances? #TwitterMigration

Tonight I finished @maddow’s new podcast Ultra. This powerful warning shot, this unearthing of the threat of American facism in the 30s& 40s is required learning for this moment. There has been a dress rehearsal for what we are facing. We’d best learn. I strongly encourage you to listen to all 8 episodes. The parallels are stunning. A reminder that we’ve fought this before. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rachel-maddow-presents-ultra/id1647910854?i=1000586931428

The horrific murderous attack on LGBTQ people in Colorado is a reminder of two things:
1. Words inciting violence lead to violence
2. Unarmed people in Colorado did what hundreds of armed officers couldn’t in Uvalde—stop a mass murderer before he killed even more innocent people
