Yep. It's so informative.
Emily Bazelon commented on the current use of "America First" & its relationship to the 30s/40s on Political Gabfest back at the beginning of the Trump insanity. It was the first thing that came to my mind as I listened to Maddow's conclusion. Wonder how many others made that connection back then.
The current situation is very, very dangerous for all of us.
Have to ask in advance: Does this history have any critical angle on corporate power? I am sick to death of the inane punting, esp from MSNBC.
I'd also recommend reading Thomas Zimmer (@[email protected]) on the bird app for a very clear take on our current rise of the white, Christian, patriarchal right.
He's a visiting professor at Georgetown.
@ifilljustice I finished it yesterday as well. To me, Maddow method of telling a story is very reminiscent of Paul Harvey, unspooling the details in a way that is logical, enthralling and ultimately entertaining.
Surprisingly it gave me some comfort to know that our country has stared down similar threats to democracy in the past and come through intact. Like listening to Jon Meacham and Micheal Beschloss talk, always makes me feel better.
@ifilljustice For those who prefer to get their essential information somewhere other than a vendor-specific platform, Rachel Maddow's Ultra is also available here.
