@perry_mitchell thanks for the thoughts!
Right now everything I run is a Docker container with unique Docker compose files on each bare-metal device. It works ok, but updating those unique containers is a bit convoluted.
I wrote an Ansible playbook to poll each device, create a list of containers and images, pull all new images, then blindly recreate all containers. It works great but it doesn't have idempotence. Maybe that's ok for my setup...
@ithoughtisawa2 sure, that's true. I did just lob a grenade and walk away, of sorts.
All of my services thus far are docker containers spread across several different 2010s Mac minis running Debian 12.
My main draw was the concept of having all containers controlled within one interface, but like you stated the downside is single point of failure.
I binge-watched the series Murderbot season 1 over two evenings. It’s quirky, like the books, and so good. I highly recommend it.
I read the books beforehand which may have contributed to my opinion. So I’d be curious about anyone’s opinion about the series, who hasn’t read the books first.
Soon.
Raspberry Pi Zero 2W gets a bit more exposed with the help of @lumafield and someone I met at Open Sauce...
