I am convinced that future historians will view our current era as a continuous extension of the Victorian Era.
Our society is still ruled by the same kind of cultural prudishness, is prone to the same sort of moral panics, places a high premium on engineering and believes that industrial/commercial progress will solve our problems, and continues to view poverty as a personal failing.
We want to think we are different than those silly Victorians, with their fancy outfits and backwards notions, but we're not.
