Physics student rapidly oscillating between uni, the hackerspace, board games, video games, starting art projects never to be finished, and finding new ways to procrastinate.

Thriving in chaos. Enjoyer of rock, metal, and video game bard songs. Might send you unsolicited proofs.

Every now and again, I'm reminded of that 6th grade physics class where we were learning about units of measurement and decided to measure a box of milk. We got a slightly higher volume for the liquid it can hold than for the box itself, and when the teacher asked if anyone had an idea why, a kid mentioned the slight outward bulge of the box when it's filled. The teacher just said "you're right, I didn't even think of that" and to this day, I don't know what the expected answer would have been.
When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.
@sabik @maelduin13 @Daojoan Noether's theorem is still one of the coolest things in physics. At first, you say "what do you mean, energy isn't conserved?", then you realize everything makes sense now. That being said, her theory wasn't a more accurate alternative to Einstein's but rather the solution to what seemed like a contradiction in Einstein's theory.
@n0toose It's fascinating but it's also by far the hardest thing I've studied so far. Good luck!
@Quantensalat Not dreams per se, but my brain seems to switch to math mode when I'm really tired. Once I tried to brush my teeth while half asleep and started worrying that I hadn't checked all the conditions for the tooth brushing theorem to apply.
@Eatsbluecrayon My quantum mechanics prof is doing something similar. We sometimes get problems that we first had to solve by ourselves, then with an AI of our choice and compare answers. We also have computational physics course which includes a chapter on machine learning so I think the point of "AI is flimsy, breaks if you look at it wrong, and it can't do quantum mechanics" landed for all of us.
Turns out my old laptop still boots...
@DrorBedrack @MicroSFF You put it there tomorrow.

Lets be clear; changes to tax laws do not 'force' the wealthy to leave the country.

The wealthy are choosing not to increase their contribution to the country they are (currently at least) living in.

Sure that is a choice they are free to make, but its their choice; no-one is forcing them into anything.

They already have enough money, so refusing to pay higher taxes is a choice about what they wish to support in their (for now) home country!

They are not victims!

“Historically, no one lived past age 35” "I’ve heard *so* many versions of this claim, including recently from a menopause doctor (implying menopause is not “natural” because noone lived long enough to go through it). Every time someone states this “fact,” a demographer loses a piece of their soul"

There Were Still Old People When Life Expectancy Was 35.
