I miss Weird Sony
(And yes, pun intended, I think that replacing Windows with Linux IS a repair action ;)
I’ve been tweaking the heck out of this bot, so it’s currently being manually curated while I try to get a more stable flow of good screenshots (ie not too many broken images or style). But this is a good one…Twitter in 2010, when it hadn’t completely lost the plot. The API crackdowns started in 2011 or 12, I think. https://indieweb.social/@cybercultural/114020930277343140

@jwildeboer It’s definitely taken a while, but their implementation is actually fantastic. It lets you opt out of your posts being quoted, notifies you when someone quotes you, and lets you remove a specific post from a quote post.

"Handwriting is disappearing. Many people no longer have the skill to do more than scrawl their name in an illegible script. The skill has deteriorated gradually, and many of us don’t notice our own loss until we’re asked to handwrite something. But we lose something when handwriting disappears. Writing by hand, unlike tracing a letter or typing it, primes the brain for learning to read."

Signature moves: are we losing the ability to write by hand?

We are far more likely to use our hands to type or swipe than pick up a pen. But in the process we are in danger of losing cognitive skills, sensory experience – and a connection to history

Turns out you can force Siri to go through ChatGPT by treating it like a command line. The ungrammatical query “ChatGPT When does Apple next report quarterly resultschatgpts an accurate answer. I'd grade the answer A-, losing points for not saying "today” (which ChatGPT.app did).

So this means that if you use Siri and want better answers, you need to type “chatgpt" at the beginning of every query.

🤦‍♂️ Why do we keep flocking to the next big shiny thing, blindly trusting anything big tech throws at us?
