The night was wrought with restless tossing, as the bed was sinking into a jagged canyon of granite, the old man finally managed to extract his stiff lifeless body from this wretched mattress, as he struggles to stand his classical music plays, stumbling he makes his way to prepare his coffee, hands trembling as he pours in the water and counts the scoops of grind, shuffling off to the toilet, his bowels bellow out in hunger, gazing upon the mirror a face beyond misery, his hair and beard a tapestry of greasy dishevelment, realizing it has been some time, he removes his undergarment, turns on the shower and enters the pouring steaming flow, with his arms barely able to lift, he brushes his teeth, then he washes his hair and beard, exhausted he grabs the soap his hand can barely muster the strength to grasp, he slowly begins to scrub his withering bloated body, as the water continues to wash over him, he nearly falls as he lifts his feet to wash them, as the water pours down, he has yet to even take his first breath, the water stops, he grabs the towel and pats himself dry, slowly emerging he nearly slips and catches the fridge to brace himself, he reaches for the deodorant and applies a little here a little there, the arduous task of brushing out his hair and beard nearly absorb what little strength he has left, then he shuffles back to his bed, struggling in pain he manages to pull on a clean union suit, and then his socks and pants, completely worn out by this experience, he musters up the strength to pour a cup of coffee, and he packs his pipe with scraps of tobacco, as he opens the door, the air muggy and chilled, he steps into the world cloudy and uncaring to his painful plight of a dismal life;
