For folks even newer than me:

You might be seeing fewer recent posts than you expected.

Know that big servers (e.g. mastodon.social) are seeing UNPRECEDENTED user growth right now. And they have tiny tiny staffs/budgets.

A lot of today (Monday), posts didn't shown up till several hours later. All a matter of overwhelming interest—a classic good problem.

I'd bet it might take a day or three to get more servers online, but I'm glad to see there's a flood of interest :)

Time for another #introduction for the newcomers 😀 I'm an astronomer and science communicator at the European Southern Observatory.

In my previous life I used to study how galaxies form and evolve. I also helped my peers get their data as a support astronomer at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. I now work full time as Media Officer at ESO's HQ in Germany.

I'm also an avid astrophotographer! Below is a pic of my previous "office" in Chile. 🤩
