Electric Vehicles, Low-Energy Buildings, Home Automation, STEM Education and a bit of random making. Give me evidence, not opinion.

Rather than argue with the naysayers all over the internet who’ll claim that heat pumps don’t work, the boffins at Octopus have produced a live dashboard to chart the online data they get from all the thousands of systems they’ve installed. This is a fantastic resource. Looking at the numbers for the fleet as a whole I’m pleased to say that ‘Rosy’ (my Cosy) is bang on the norm as far as performance goes. https://octopus.energy/cosy-heat-pump-performance/?utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-92N1fVWdFAehre8wYictiCqGgrnpGeD9V5_EB3att0qPTctKB8kOeNTffe3KS1P7Gv41P9c_5XE4noQ-RqhVWDvpjwnA&_hsmi=131414226&utm_content=131414226&utm_source=hs_email

I don't usually work so close to home, just a short walk along the road. This is not as easy as yesterday. The stones are rounded, not flat, and the land is saturated with soft mud dug out from the wall foundation clinging to me.

This wall has been repaired many times, it's gradually slipping downhill and falling over because of the soft wet ground.

View North at 2000m elevation from the top of the ridge near al Hamra, Oman.

Only sounds are from the odd bird and a few flies. Last day of Ramadan so the place is deserted. Enjoy the peace.

Received wisdom is that you get diminishing returns from tulips if left alone, each year's flowering is supposed to be less impressive than the last.

Well I've had these cheery little guys popping up for at least five years now, I take absolutely no care of them and even plant other things in the container over summer, but they still look splendid in the early Spring sunshine.

Well TIL that the coastline of Scotland is more than double the length of the coastline of England.

World's longest coastal path opens in England to the public

The King Charles coastal path will allow walkers right of access to the entire coast for the first time.

6 months ago I bought 2 sticks of DDR4 3200 8gb RAM from Cex for £9 each.

I see today I could sell them back for £12 cash and it would take £28 to buy each of them.

6 months has gone from £18 to £56

@davidMbrooke I limit the charging rate (orange) based on remaining forecast solar vs. spare capacity.

For instance, if at 10am the forecast predicts 10 kWh of solar left that day (after subtracting domestic load), but there's only 5 kWh of spare capacity in the battery, I reduce charging rate to 50%. Calculated every hour so it adjusts to actual conditions.

This ensures that the battery charges slowly, continues to soak up some of generated power, and avoids clipping of the AC. Works really quite well.

A few hours later, an easy job with thin flat stone. I did have to get a few stones out of the river Nent to finish the top.
Another bed cleared and ready for planting. Gorgeous day today 18°C but it felt warmer in the sunshine. #GrowYourOwn #Allotment #Gardening

I first learned how to program in 1984 at 14. The tech press said I'd be obsolete by 25, due to age.

About 1990 tech press said the Japanese were building fifth generation computers to make me obsolete.

In 2000, the dot com bubble bursting was said to make me obsolete.

There's been neural networks, no-code, and more, since then, to make me obsolete.

Now it's LLMs.

Excuse me while I sit here and don't panic.

EDIT: This blew up. Muting the thread for some peace and quiet.
