Well, bother.

My #FuriPhone FLX1s ( #FuriPhoneFLX1s ) can see the T-Mobile network, but only shows 1% signal strength, and keeps dropping the network, at which point it needs to be rebooted to see the network again. I’ve submitted a support ticket, but maybe @furilabs will respond here?

Called the bowl done today, after getting tired of the long cure times with Tried and True Varnish Oil and switching to Birchwood Casey TruOil gunstock finish on the outside. I think it came out looking pretty good. #WoodTurning #Resin

No photos today; when I inspected the bowl this morning, I figured it’s about as good as I’m going to get it, so I started applying some Tried & True Varnish Oil. Got the first coat on and buffed out, and now it has to sit until tomorrow before I can scuff it with 0000 steel wool, and apply another coat.

I also cut some live oak scraps into equilateral triangles. I’ll cut some similarly-sized walnut or bubinga triangles. Plan is a big hexagonal blank which will be part of a bigger project.

Another morning working on the bowl. This morning was almost entirely card scraper work, though there was a little sandpaper for a few spots. Then a coat of 50-50 tung and orange oil. I’ll let that dry, give it another inspection and then on to the bulk of the finishing if all is well. More deets in the alt-text. #woodWorking #Finishing #FinishingPrep
This morning, I spent another hour and change finish-turning the outside of the bowl, then going back and filling the tiny cracks from the juniper drying with purple cosmetic mica and CA glue. This combination ends up being harder than the juniper wood (I might’ve said this was chokecherry earlier; I was confused), so when I sand off the excess, I’m still left with a tiny ridge. Not really visible as such, but it’s interesting to touch, and more kintsugi than wabi-sabi. (1/2)
I put a test-coat of oil on so I could see how things are progressing. A little hand-sanding, and the outside will be done, except for turning off the tenon on the bottom and smoothing the bottom of the bowl. Not sure if that will happen on the lathe (with a jam chuck, most likely) or by hand in the bench. A lot will depend on how thin I turn the walls tomorrow or Friday. More details in the alt-text. #woodTurning #crackRepair (2/2)
Got a session out in the shop this evening. Rough-hollowed the bowl so that I can finish turn it maybe next week. It gets the weekend for the epoxy to cure and the wood to finish drying, and possible crack some more. I also might decide to touch up some of the chip-out in the epoxy where it wasn’t cured enough, but I’ll decide that tomorrow, as any patches will be small enough to cure very quickly. I think it’ll end up being a right handsome bowl when complete, though. #woodTurning

Third, and hopefully final epoxy pour complete. A total of 5 oz (150ml) of epoxy resin was used, which is less than most of my pours. I realized that I could fill the majority of the crack with sawdust, because it will be the interior of the bowl, which will get turned away. Didn’t pack it as tightly as I might’ve, or I probably could’ve cut it to 3oz.

Anyway, a couple days to cure, and I’ll be able to hollow the bowl and get a better idea of what I’ll have. #WoodTurning #epoxy

I really hope #Apple tracks “failed swipes” on #iOS in their “improvement programs.” I have an iPad and iPhone which both lack a home button, and I have to run with Assistive Touch turned on, because both to get home, and “swipe up to sign in” fail for me more then ⅔ of the time. And this was BEFORE the dog’s dinner that is iOS 26.

If I ever buy another Apple product, please mock me for my stupidity.

If you've ever gotten a pen from me, I wrote up an article: "How to Care for my Pens" which describes how to find refills, get a broken pen repaired (send it to me), and how to refinish the wood if it's gotten scuffed over time. https://peekachello.art/how-to-care-for-my-pens
How to care for my pens

I make pens and have given away quite a few, and sold some too. This is a care guide for them, since I use a fairly simple and renewable ...
