New modeling from The Lancet suggests the USAID funding cuts will kill 14 million people.

Many of them are children.

600,000 have already died.

The man who gutted the program?

Elon Musk. The world’s first trillionaire.

He has a trillionaire dollars and is murdering the poorest people on earth.

He should be in jail.

Billionaires and trillionaires should not exist in a world where millions die from poverty every year.

What an article. The entire GOP is like "get out of the country, we hate you, you don't belong here" and they're like "well that sucks, but we'll still vote Republican."

Don't tell anyone, but back when I worked there I liked to pretend those tunnels were part of a Doom-style FPS game. (Yes, that's my hand holding a small tripod as a makeshift gun. Don't judge me.)

@sean it's easier to complain about problems than to come up with solutions, that's for sure

I like the Open Rights Group's take on a solution, which is essentially to regulate social media such that the incentives that cause it to be harmful dissipate: https://www.openrightsgroup.org/press-releases/starmers-social-media-ban-fails-to-address-root-causes-of-online-harms/

would definitely take a lot longer to implement than setting an age limit, especially since the latter gets to delegate age verification to unregulated third-parties

Starmer’s social media ban fails to address root causes of online harms

Open Rights Group has responded to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement that the Government will ban social media, including gaming sites, for under 16s in the UK.

More generally, the whole "the nominal left wing turned out to be centrist, by which I mean professional appeasers who keep chasing the right off the cliff, so instead of voting for anyone actually on the left, let's just vote for the fascists directly and cut out the middle man" pattern is so completely familiar at this point, but no less frustrating and infuriating for how often it occurs.

What makes this combustible: at the very moment that tens of thousands of workers are being shown the door, a small cohort of AI insiders is becoming wealthy on a scale that's hard to comprehend.

> How are we all collectively supposed to forget and move past experiencing the respectable elders in an institution having completely and totally embarrassed themselves in the name of "progress"?

our workplace LLM mass delusion

The in-house sessions showing off the tech are embarrassing; led by the wrong people, and should likely not even happen in the first place.

It has not been a secret for decades that the right wing planned to shrink the fed govt small enough to "drown in a bathtub," esp since 2016.

I tell my clients all the time that grants are a bridge to program viability, not the actual viability. No one listens.

These institutions should have been planning for this day for the last 10 years at least, if not longer.

Now we lose lifelines, b/c Wall St can't profiteer off of universal NP healthcare & education.

I was a blogger back in the 90s and I'm so confused by how much worse blogging and blogging software is now vs the last fucking century.
