Recent discussion about the perils of doors in gamedev reminded me of a bug caused by a door in a game you may have heard of called "Half Life 2". Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin.

A lot of tech people, particularly more junior folks, are looking for jobs right now. A short but important note for them: newcomers should generally ignore career advice from people who've been in the field longer than 10 or 15 years.

The way the industry treats us is so dramatically different from the way it treats newcomers that most advice is just flat out wrong.

Beware tech career advice from old heads - Jacob Kaplan-Moss

If you’re new to tech – say, less than 5 years in the field – you should take career advice from people who’ve been in the industry more than 10-15 years with enormous skepticism.

Let Gavin know that ceding ground to that odious fascist troll Charlie Kirk isn't going to get the VCs to stop funding recall campaigns and it certainly isn't going to win him the presidency.

I've long said Gavin Newsom wouldn't be my first pick in any primary. Now I'm not sure he'd even get my vote in a general election. No one who throws a vulnerable minority under the bus deserves our support. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/06/gavin-newsom-breaks-with-democrats-on-trans-athletes-in-sports-00215436 #USPol #CAPol #TransRights

My upcoming retirement from the Marine Corps was recently approved, and it has me reflecting on my career and the many lessons I have learned over the years.

So I started writing... and forgot to stop 😅 This turned out far longer - but also far more polished - than I expected.

It might be the thing I am most proud to have written.

@hacks4pancakes Might be the wrong target audience, but we're hiring (hardware) design verification folks. We probably can sponsor a visa for people who want to move to the UK. If you're willing to live somewhere in the north of England, that would make some of our investors happy (we're full remote, but are partially funded by the Northern Powerhouse fund and they like seeing money being reinvested in the local economy).

We probably will be hiring more security-focused systems programmers in the next six months.

My immersion blender broke today, which made me feel bad about being wasteful until I realized that it was old enough to vote in the US. Now I just feel bad because time is passing.
