I'm looking for LGBTQ+ Australians to chat about their experiences with social media, including how recent changes to Twitter and Meta have impacted them, as well as their experiences with online conflict and wellbeing.

I'm reading about ways new philosophies can help us understand gender beyond the binary. Gender can be an ongoing process of transformation & flux. It can be shaped by our bodies, our senses, other people, landscapes, technology, and culture. What does Mastodon think about ways we can undo our gender with non-human things? Can we transform our gender by bathing in forests, eating new foods, or meeting new people?

RMIT's Digital Hostility and Disinformation Lab has a new website! Check out our upcoming events, recordings from previous events, and our current research, including surveys. I'm helping out with the survey on LGBT experiences with online abuse.

I've been quiet on my social media because I'm researching LGBT experiences with Twitter. I've been immersed within the world of tweets, memes, and digital hostilities. I've learned and grown as a researcher.

My focus is on trans, gender expansive, and queer people. Today, my data collection phase concluded. I'm writing a publication on my research. I can't wait to share my research with you all very soon. πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Are you LGBTQ+ and want to share your experiences with online abuse, such as hate speech and trolling? If yes, we have an opportunity for you! I'm working with a team of researchers from RMIT University, and we’re conducting an anonymous survey on digital hostility. The survey takes 15 minutes to complete.

Digital Hostility and Online Abuse: LGBTQ+ Experiences

This study is investigating experiences of online hostility, hate speech and trolling and how gender- and sexually-diverse people experience online abuse, and our experiences in reporting it or deciding not to report. Your participation in this study will help us understand the extent of the problem, and provide information to help us develop recommendations for service providers, platforms, moderators, policy-makers and the community.

Okay, there's swagger...

And then there's Judith fucking Butler making the cover of their new book, "Who's Afraid of Gender," the fucking nonbinary pride flag.

Absolutely iconic.

Exciting news! RMIT's DERC has "soft launched" their new lab on Digital Hostility and Disinformation. Our new lab is working on panels, conferences, and publications. Topics we're exploring include online abuse and hate speech, misinformation, and solutions for platform misuse.

The LGBTQ+ study I'm assisting with for the lab is still open and can be found on my profile!
