Power in Digital Queer Space: An Exploration of the Lived Experiences of Emergent Identities in Australia

This study is exploring how people with emergent, non-binary, and fluid genders, sexes, and sexualities (for example non-allosexual, plurisexual, non-monosexual, aromantic, asexual, plurisexual, omnisexual, pansexual, skoliosexual etc.) use social networking sites to connect and socialise online. In this first, current phase of research, we are surveying people of diverse genders, sexes, and sexualities (including but not limited to LGBTQ+ and beyond) in Australia to find out about their experiences using social networking sites to connect with people in online communities. There will be questions on what online communities you participate in, your experiences with participating in these communities, and your experiences with decentralised social networking sites.

Are you LGBTQ+ and want to share your experiences with online abuse, such as hate speech and trolling? If yes, we have an opportunity for you! I'm working with a team of researchers from RMIT University, and we’re conducting an anonymous survey on digital hostility. The survey takes 15 minutes to complete.

Digital Hostility and Online Abuse: LGBTQ+ Experiences

This study is investigating experiences of online hostility, hate speech and trolling and how gender- and sexually-diverse people experience online abuse, and our experiences in reporting it or deciding not to report. Your participation in this study will help us understand the extent of the problem, and provide information to help us develop recommendations for service providers, platforms, moderators, policy-makers and the community.

Are you an academic researcher, PGR, or post-doc who is feeling overwhelmed and burnt out? Here are some tips (courtesy of the wall in my office) on how to improve your physical, mental, and social well-being!
