Live in Ipswich, Suffolk in the UK, mainly work from home but occasionally in London.

I’m an IT architect by day but I don’t post about work stuff.

Creator of Battery Notes for Home Assistant, core integration owner for Mealie and Mastodon and maintainer of some more niche custom integrations.

In my free time, in no particular order I am interested in #HomeAssistant #HomeAutomation #3dPrinting #macOS #lego#food #cooking #diy #gardening

End of 2025 already... What an unusual year it turned out to be.
Thank you for being with us through it. ❤️ Your feedback, problems, and feature requests inspire us more than you probably know. Happy new year! 🙂
Had fun labelling my patch panels now I have 6mm tape.
You have to be very precise and my 24 port panel needs .1mm less spacing next time I do it as it slightly runs out of alignment along the length, at least I can save the template for easy editing next time.
The 12 port wall panel is perfectly aligned, despite the photo.
I always fancied a better Brother label tape printer with a qwerty keyboard, cable wrap and patch panel functions which my partner very generously got me 🎁
I don't think either of us realised the size difference. This thing is huge, very nice though.
New Third Reality garage door sensors today 🎁
Added into #HomeAssistant via Zigbee2mqtt without a hitch.
I found a bug in Battery Notes discovering this device but I’m not fixing that today.

Whoa! Big discovery with the "mealie" recipe manager.

https://mealie.io

It does a crazy good job of importing recipes from an URL. I knew that.

But that doesn't help if the link is to a subscription site -- like America's Test Kitchen.

Turns out you can also do the import from raw HTML. So I can browse the page, view page source, copy the HTML, and paste it into mealie.

This is *chef's kiss* good.

Mealie.io

A simple, fast, and easy way to create and share recipes.

Was using #watchtower for my working but not polished container management.
Some time ago #komodo added auto updating but I didn't notice, so I enabled that and learnt how to add a custom alerter to post to a telegram channel.
Just have to wait for some image updates to prove it all works 😊

Liking the new auto translate feature in #MonaApp 7 by @MonaApp
I follow a few #Mastodon hashtags which aren't filtered to my chosen language. This now allows me to read so much more interesting stuff, plus it shows they are translated so I won't reply in English.

posted about my Apple ID woes, please share widely?

20 Years of Digital Life, Gone in an Instant, thanks to Apple

Summary: A major brick-and-mortar store sold an Apple Gift Card that Apple seemingly took offence to, and locked out my entire Apple ID, effectively bricking my devices and my iCloud Account, Apple Developer ID, and everything associated with it, and I have no recourse. Can you help? Email paris AT paris.id.au (and read on for the details). ❤️ Update 14 December 2025: Someone from Executive Relations at Apple says they’re looking into it. I hope this is true. They say they’ll call me back tomorrow, on 15 December 2025. In the mean time, it’s been covered by Daring Fireball, Apple Insider, Michael Tsai, and others, thanks folks! I’ve received 100s of emails of support, and will reply to you all in time, thank you. Finger’s crossed Apple calls back.
