@andresmh hey can I get an hci.social invite?
Last was a timely talk by Mayara Costa Figueiredo on #healthcare #data collection at #CHIWORK. The conversation here is focused on #PeriodTracking, which in the US especially has become particularly sensitive. The research here goes into great detail about what #designers, #patients, and medical staff should consider when creating and using these systems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcFs9FsCWBs (8/8)

Next was an interesting talk by Taylor Kessler Faulkner on how to help #robots learn from #humans. People are notoriously imperfect 👋, so Faulkner introduces multiple methods that brilliantly improve human robot systems using new models of attention, accuracy, and #reinforcement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_Q7ntoiYo4 (7/8)

Next was an absolutely amazing discussion at #Oxford's Institute for #AI #Ethics on the economic impact of AI with Daron Acemoglu, Ekaterina Hertog, Maximilian Kasy, and John Tasioulas. There is just so much in this conversation, first understanding how #algorithms interact with #economies and #governments before moving squarely into ethics of #design, #optimization, #power, and beyond. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv7qROIpGJI (6/8)

Next was a discussion on #antitrust enforcement, #startups, and #tech #M&A at the #UCBerkeley School of #Law with Sarah Cardell, Jeremiah Gordon, Kristen Limarzi, and Jan Rybnicek. I loved the different perspectives in this discussion, which overall emphasized the importance of regulatory predictability and transparency as well as engagement with #companies as they begin the M&A process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3WBuUXcvdY (5/8)

Next was a nice discussion on opportunities for the #Africa #tech ecosystem at the #SaïdBusinessSchool at U#Oxford with Lorraine Wright and Lucy Mullins. I was particularly interested in conversation on Grow For Me and StepLadder and their service structure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvAH5mzKUlY (4/8)

Next was an incredible talk by Steven Sloman on how people decide they "know" something. There's an important interplay between #psychology, #communities, and #networks here that is often glossed over, and this talk uses #experiments to help frame the discussion and improve our understanding of how we can expect #opinions to change or stay constant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ64Uc1lfzU&t=36s (3/8)

First up was a fascinating discussion with Edoardo Teso on the #VoxDev #podcast on the impact of #political #opinions on personnel decisions. There's amazing #data from the #Brazilian context that provides rich results on the individual and firm impacts. https://podcasts.google.com/u/1/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hdWRpb2Jvb20uY29tL2NoYW5uZWxzLzQ5NzA3NzQucnNz/episode/dGFnOmF1ZGlvYm9vbS5jb20sMjAyMi0wOS0wNzovcG9zdHMvODE1MzIyOQ?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwjw_dPQ0ov7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQLA (1/8)

Happy Halloween! I've eaten way too much candy (I'm sure my kids won't notice 🤞), but luckily I was able to go on a long run beforehand and listen to lots of great talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist! (1/8) (no pictures on Mastodon again 😞 )
