“Upcycled Housing” in Copenhagen. This is Resource Rows by builder NREP and architect Lendager. The bricks were cut into 1x1 metre panels, mostly from the demo of the nearby Carlsberg brewery buildings, and then reassembled to create the facade of the new housing.

Why panels? In older buildings, the mortar between the bricks is often stronger than the actual brick, making it difficult to separate the individual bricks from the mortar. So the builder cut and panelized the old facade.

Linux and open source demolish capitalist myth that profit drives innovation. Some of the world's most vital software being built by volunteers as opposed to corporations proves that humans create interesting things for the sake of curiosity and joy. When profit becomes the primary motive, you get ads, not Apache; microtransactions, not MySQL. Real innovation thrives when we're free to build, not just bill.

I'm really loving how Mastodon has become a refuge for all the grizzled seafarers on the ocean of the internet. They pop up in my feed and their bios all say something like

"I've been online for longer than the internet. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. 56k modems on fire in the light of Usenet. I watched IRC forks glitter in the dark near the Gateway 3000. All those moments will be lost in slop, like tears in rain. Time to deshittify."

If you're eating grass-fed cows instead of industrial cows, you're not helping the climate.

The carbon intensity of grass-fed beef is not less than that of industrial beef, and it's 3 to 40 times more than most plant and animal alternatives.
