One for @clive: “Our central hypothesis is that poetic form operates as a general-purpose jailbreak operator.” Adversarial poetry is notably effective at delivering attack prompts for LLMs. https://arxiv.org/html/2511.15304v1

#WritersCoffeeClub Nov 19 - What's something (even if fantastical!) which could improve your process?

Not fantastical at all: earlier this year the Irish government made their experimental program of basic income payments for artists (including authors) permanent. Generates more economic productivity than it costs, reduces precarity and stress. I really think we'd be better off if this scheme was adopted worldwide:

Basic Income for the Arts

The pilot scheme will be open to eligible artists and creative arts sector workers

Although if you DO happen to be in or near Vancouver, Canada, I'll be speaking at CABBAGE AND THE CITY this Sunday, November 23rd, and there are a few spots left -- come and make civic conversation and cabbage rolls! https://www.sfu.ca/sca/events---news/events/cabbage-and-the-city.html
Cabbage and the City

Blending civic conversation with culinary tradition | Sunday, November 23, 2025 | 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM | Russian Hall, 600 Campbell Avenue, Vancouver | Pay What You Can | Suggested donation of $10

[also, please bear in mind that I'll be posting your bookplate from Vancouver, Canada -- I encourage you to get in touch sooner rather that later so it has plenty of time to make the trip to you!]

Holiday gifting season is upon us!

Because folks have asked, I don't really have a way to get signed copies of HOW INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS to readers.

However, I'd be happy to put a customized, signed bookplate in the mail that can be affixed to a book acquired locally.

I'll cover the postage from Canada, but I'll ask you to make a charitable donation, in any amount, to a secular organization that serves community members in need (food bank, shelter, mutual aid, bail fund, etc.).

that’s a nice decentralized network you’ve got there, be a real shame if capitalism happened to it
If it were up to me, shipping companies would pay artists to decorate their containers as they weave their way across the world, and rail crossings would be like art shows
