I've been doing to test shots today to see how good I can get an image to look when shooting in REALLY bad light. I think it turned out pretty well! The subject helps, of course.

Looking at some shots I've taken of hawks, I decided to compare a shot from last week with one from a couple years ago. I had a G9 years ago, when it was a new model, but moved 'up' to full frame Sony, and then Canon, before finally coming back. One of the reasons was that, as everyone knows, FF is better in low light.

But, is it? These are similar pictures of similar birds. Both are, I believe, young Red-Tailed Hawks. The pose is similar, and both are in a tree, in shadow. The left side was a sunny day, in the afternoon, while the right side was overcast, and in the middle of the day. What I can say for certain is that the left side was brighter, just based on the exif data.

In the past 24 hours I've noticed that if the Robins are making a lot of noise and seem to be on high alert, I should look around for a hawk.
