New #gamedev blog post about crafting and cooking in my game: https://bluespruceinteractive.com/blog/5-crafting-cooking-mix-match/
The idea is that almost everything needs to be growable, harvestable, reusable, and compostable, to keep up a self-renewing cycle in a closed ecosystem. And using all of those sticks and leaves should be fun and interesting too!
So there's wood, plant fiber, mycelium, seaweed, algae, chitin, and calcium carbonate. There are 3D printers, electric looms, cardboard makers, mycelium incubators, etc.
Furniture has mix-and-match-able tops, legs, seats, backs. Colors are determined by which biomass you choose. Disassemble a table to swap in a top or legs from another one.
Cooking works similarly: grains/beans grind into different colored flours for cakes and breads. Fruit mixes in, or makes filling for cakes and pies. Nuts/seeds blend into different colored plant butters, used as spreads or frostings.
