Alaskan music producer/teacher/fan. I especially love vocal pop, rock, retrowave, and adjacent genres. I play keys and guitar. He/him.

"HERE BE DRAGONS," an 11-track synthpop/80s rock tour de force, out now!

Love is not a zero-sum game.

Ah hah, you've answered the question I was wondering: whether the A-49 has the same "slightly smaller" keys as the A-800 etc. I'm glad to hear they do, I LOVE that key size.

And I like the Roland pitch/mod wheel format too.

One more anecdote for you: something about Ableton clicks with me like nothing else has. I intended to just use it for live stuff but tried recording with it and ended up switching. I love the horizontal layout of FX and plugin chains.

The only BIG drawback for me is it doesn't have ARA support for Melodyne etc. Few DAWs do I guess (and Logic only does in the Intel/Rosetta version) but yeesh it's annoying. Might use Studio One for tracking vox, Live for all else.

I'd add Roland A-49 to your list of ones to check out, my all-time fav controller was the last gen A-series. The keys are slightly smaller than normal which fit my hands nicely, but not sure if the newer A-series are full sized or slightly smaller sized.

Anyway, random thoughts, maybe they help! πŸ˜€

It also has a lot of extra controls that are specific to Arturia software, which I don't use. I wish I could remap the central wheel and other controls to other things but you can't.

The pitch and mod wheels are above the keyboard in the back, slightly annoying when mounted under a desk or other keyboards.

@ambergrey
I use a Keylab 61 as my main controller in the studio. I got mine used and it didn't come with the Arturia keylab softsynths library. As a basic controller it's fine, but I probably wouldn't pick it if I didn't already have it if that makes sense.

The keybed feels a little squishy to me, like it has a bit of extra resistance that I find odd in a synth style controller. It doesn't feel like a piano either.

Gorgeous guitar! 😍

Hey everyone, I'm BACK with new music coming next week.

"Highway 101" is all about "I gotta get out of here!" without the pesky "where am I going?"

It's a pretty classic Nagoon weird #synthpop with vocals track (this one I sing myself).

Please follow and share and all that jazz. Full track on Bandcamp next week!

Blue Nagoon is BACK with some weird & woolly synthpop

Pre-saves & follows welcome!

Mixing my latest track and it sounds SO GOOD

Until I compare it to my reference track, and then it sounds SO BAD.

Oof I can relate to this one. I bet it's still gonna be awesome. 🀘

I like synthwave with vocals, if you do too here are some playlists you might like, and a song of mine that's pure synthwave with vocals.

One of my most purely synthwave songs (I tend to mix in a lot of guitars & 80s rock, but not here):
