Programmer by day... programmer by night. I'm not very exciting.

I'm gonna get a Frame solely on account of it being the only bloody headset that won't treat me (a linux user) like an afterthought.
It makes me laugh/cry that we spent decades trying to get the software industry to internalise that it takes far more effort to support & maintain systems than it does to write them in the first place, and yet seemingly every trendy development in the last 5-10 years has been about making that initial stage faster & sloppier at the expense of everything else
Instead of a dead plant, we just have a clock at the end of our hall that perpetually says 6:04.
sometimes this is how work in #infosec feels
@gamingonlinux I just went to check to make sure my PC info was up to date on GOL, and I noticed I had marked "Yes" for dual boot with windows... I always forget that I have a small SSD stuffed away in my computer with windows on it (I only keep it around in case something REQUIRES windows, ie, updating xbox controller firmware to make them work with the steam deck bluetooth)

For our second spotlight we are shining a light on @gamingonlinux who keeps us informed with #Linux #News and #Gaming.

Liam, we can’t imagine the #Fediverse without you. You add so much to the community and you never let the trolls take you down! We also love that your website adheres to the #FediPUG code of conduct.

Thank you for all your hard work! We hope to be reading your articles for many years to come!

@[email protected] Are global binds and per-window desktop-portal capture things that are coming to sway anytime soon?

I'm stuck on i3 for my work device because I often need to screenshare individual windows (I have an ultrawide monitor and people complain if i screenshare the entire display).

And I need global keybinds so discord can listen to PTT. Which again, forces me back to i3 for playing certain games with friends.

I look forward to when I can actually just uninstall i3 from my systems.

After playing around for a bit there were a few things that I did in fact like...

Having an actual concept for handling global shortcuts, even if inadequate for my needs, was nice.

The desktop sharing portal, was way nicer than the wlr one (which only allows sharing a full monitor),.

Didn't have any of the problems with multi window apps (like zoom) refusing to render because one of the windows was in the background.

KDE 6 has some of that "mainstream" polish appeal over tilers.

I moved the taskbar to the top of my leftmost monitor. and for some reason clicking on the launcher button acts as if I am clicking on the a clipboard manager in the notification tray. Apparently nonstandard notification tray icons can go rogue and be clickable in the wrong spots (while still showing up and be clickable in the right spots).

Testing out KDE Plasma 6 even though I'm more of a i3/swaywm type of person.

It insists that my /home directory is a removable drive (it's an NVMe)

the "let legacy x11 apps listen to keystrokes" solution for global keybinds only works for keyboard input, not mouse buttons. Which means I can't use a side mouse button for push to talk in discord.

The "share a rectangular region" share option in Zoom only works on my leftmost monitor.

nice experience, but still wayland teething pains.
