@ascentale @wesley @bikenite A5: lack of bike infrastructure is a huge problem here. I can do all my errands by bike within town but to go to the next town? Even when it’s only a couple miles farther across the boundary line between us? Way too dangerous. Shoulders are narrow or non-existent and high speed cars zooming by—-nope. It’s frustrating, as we have a lot of residents who would be happy to go carfree.
Sigh.
@grammasaurus @ascentale @wesley @bikenite Same situation here. I no longer ride on the roads to the next town over since it feels like drivers have become much nastier since Covid and I’m not as confident a rider as I once was. I keep advocating for more bike infrastructure, but it’s a very long game. Funding just isn’t there despite very, very high bike use here. We have lots of studies but not a lot of construction to make roads safer.
@ascentale @wesley @bikenite #BikeNite A5. I only bike for utility trips these days - shopping, errands, beach days, etc. - and I’m in a small town, so I put in about 5 miles a day. I don’t really “go for a bike ride” as an activity any more since I don’t enjoy it (health issues and unsafe drivers) as much as I used to.
@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A2. My primary bike (a Workcycles FR8) has steering stabilizer springs, and they’re fantastic. I’ve tried retrofitting them to other bikes, but the front fork and frame geometry needs to be right or they don’t fit. (I’ve tried adding them to an Electra Loft, Trek Verve, and Detroit Bikes Type B without success.) The problem I was trying to fix was the wheel flopping to the side when parked on a kickstand & causing the bike to fall over.
The Tenways Cargo One is the least expensive electric bakfiets available in the US at $5499 (an Urban Arrow Family is $6999). It launched in Europe last year and just arrived in the US. Anyone seen it in person? My nearest Tenways dealer is about 150 miles away. https://us.tenways.com/products/cargo-one #CargoBike #BikeTooter #Tenways #UrbanArrow

How to argue for better streets – Exploring Streetmeter and Streetmix

Are you a traffic or urban planner looking to drive sustainable urban transformation? Join us for a dynamic and insightful webinar on April 23, from 16:00 to 17:00 CEST, where we will explore innovative tools and strategies to reshape car-dominated streets into greener, more human-centered spaces. This event is tailored for professionals like you—whether you're dealing with the challenges of car-centric urban planning or are focused on creating walkable, bikeable, and vibrant environments. You will gain practical insights into Streetmeeter, a tool developed to help planners and decision-makers make compelling, data-driven arguments for sustainable street transformations. About the Webinar The webinar will introduce Streetmeeter, a tool developed during a Future Mobility innovation project. Streetmeeter is a web app designed to support sustainable street design in Sweden and North America. This tool, created through a collaborative project involving leading urban design firms Spacescape (Sweden), RISE, Streetplans (United States), and OAWA On A Wednesday Afternoon AB, helps planners rethink car-oriented streets and create more livable urban spaces. The tool is currently being tested in ongoing projects in Swedish and American municipalities, with feedback from planners incorporated into its development process. In addition to Streetmeeter, you’ll discover how the Streetmix platform enables planners to visualize street redesigns and engage stakeholders in shaping more sustainable urban spaces.Mike Lydon, from Streetplans, will deliver a lecture on developing streets that are both sustainable and people-friendly. He will cover the key factors involved in transforming streetscapes, share stories of successful past projects, and explain the calculations behind effective street designs. If you’re passionate about transforming streetscapes and want to learn how to leverage new technologies and tools in your work, this event is for you!   This event is organized by Future Mobility in collaboration with Spacescape, Steetmix and RISE.  Agenda 16:00 Welcome Malin Eklund, Programme manager, Vinnova & Björn Svensby Kurling, Programme Manager, Societal Development, Vinnova Alexander Ståhle, Spacescape & Katarina Borg, RISE 16:02 Future Mobility  Hans Pohl, Program Director, Future Mobility 16:05 – Creating Street Performance Presentation by Mike Lydon, Founder of Street PlansMike Lydon will deliver a lecture on how to develop streets that are more sustainable and people-friendly. Another load of beach bricks! I can only carry about a dozen at a time (around 50 lbs worth). More than that and the bike gets really top-heavy. #reuse #recycle #beachFinds #CapeCod #Workcycles #BikeTooter #quaxing #bricks #CargoBike #beach
Collected some bricks from the beach for a garden project… there’s so much random flotsam that gets revealed at low tide! #noBuy #CargoBike #Workcycles #BikeTooter #Reuse #Recycle #quaxing #BeachFinds #CapeCod
@ascentale @NNN @bikenite #BikeNite A8. I used to walk everywhere, but my arthritic feet can’t do that anymore. If it’s more than a 15 minute walk (about a half mile for me), I take a bike. The lack of benches for folks to rest on has become really apparent - I was in Boston a month ago and was taken aback by how infrequent public benches were compared to here in tiny Provincetown.
@sam @ascentale @johne @bikenite Ugh. That’s awful. You might want to reach out to BikeShopGirl since she works for Tern and might be able to give you a real answer about right to repair. She’s on all the other social platforms and runs the cargbikelife.com forum.
