A #NoKings report from #Atlanta:
(Note: attached pics have anonymized/blurred faces.)
I returned a bit ago from the #NoKings gathering in #Atlanta, which started at the #Georgia State Capitol - I have no idea how many people attended, but there were more people that I could count in every direction!
Towards the beginning, there were two [very] small groups of Proud Boys (~ 2-3 fascists) marching through the crowd, who non-violently responded with some well-deserved F*ck N*zis, etc.
Later on, there were so many people that they (and I) joined an impromptu march east towards the King Center, led by a small brass band. It was joyous, it was purposeful, and an expression of Democracy.
Zero law enforcement issues. Georgia State Patrol (in charge of Capitol security) were in the regular uniforms with no riot gear. They respected the protesters and the protesters respected them.
And zero issues with the march on the streets too.
I met other fellow Americans on the way there, at the parade, and back, and had a nice chat with an Army Veteran too. We all understood the assignment.
I'm terrified for the future of my country - even more so with the horrific news from Minneapolis. But the rally and march in Atlanta gives me hope - after all, we have friends everywhere.
