Zenodo is a goldmine for open datasets, but few Mac users seem to be aware that any uploaded zip will include the hidden .DS_Store metadata. This isn't always a benign artifact, https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/437549/are-there-privacy-risks-in-sharing-the-macos-ds-store-files #mac_osx #zenodo #openscience
It would be a good thing for Zenodo to screen for the presence of such data, as I don't think most users are even aware of the issue.
Are there privacy risks in sharing the MacOS .DS_Store files?

In MacOS, each folder has a hidden .DS_Store file. If I compress a folder on MacOS, the zip file will contain those .DS_Store files. What information is contained in those files, and does it expose...

Ferroptosis: mechanisms, biology and role in disease - PubMed

The research field of ferroptosis has seen exponential growth over the past few years, since the term was coined in 2012. This unique modality of cell death, driven by iron-dependent phospholipid peroxidation, is regulated by multiple cellular metabolic pathways, including redox homeostasis, iron ha …

Usually on #Linux one has to 'make things work', to be compatible with closed source OS. Nice to see EU Horizon is open/inclusive to a different approach. I can make M. fonts work on Linux, but it's nice to see open source fonts are supported. #academia #EU

I've been using #osmand for years for offline #hiking, but the recent version is just amazingly informative, you get archeological markers, gates, even when a part of a #trail has a 1-2m wooden section, etc. It's #navigation is superb, without draining battery, and works 100% offline. Highly recommended. https://github.com/osmandapp/OsmAnd

This is a convenient feature when you're planning hikes that cross the snowline. Heatmaps over all time are useful in finding hotspots or unexplored routes, but timed aggregation allows you to see where others are exploring this week, and give an indication without having to check forums. #hiking #ridewithgps (disclaimer, I'm premium user of ridewithgps, but also heavily rely on #osm #osmapp (also premium))
texGPT in Writefull being helpful in providing me (inside Overleaf) with the equation I need. It's more than just fixing #latex issues, its inference can link semantic terms to what you need. It can give at a minimum a working baseline to improve upon, saving time. (in this case it's 95% accurate). #scientificwriting #productivity #mathematics
