Bonsoir. Enchante. I am Bethany Brookshire, I'm a #science #journalist, #scicomm #nerd, #podcast host, and now #author! My book, Pests: How Humans Create Animal Villains, will be out December 6!
It's about the animals we hate, and WHY. It's about the animals we love, no matter who they hurt. It's "scintillating, searching, and surprisingly funny" and I hope that the #twitter implosion hasn't doomed it. And me.
Me: Ah well, fall back means it's dark early but at least I'll wake up easier in the mornings.

In recent years, we became too comfortable letting #Twitter define journalism & media. Algorithms often dictated the narratives we collectively paid attention to.
Absurd trends were covered by news outlets & ballooned into major stories while we missed so much real substance. And the quick takes of uninformed politicians & bad actors were forced upon anyone participating in the network.
It was bad for democracy. The #Mastodon model makes me hopeful we can do better. #twittermigration
I'm thinking I'd like to start writing my newsletter again! But it's not going to be like last time. This time...we're gonna learn about PESTS.
Join me, on TEAM TRASH. https://tinyletter.com/BBrookshire/letters/join-me-on-team-trash
I mean yes, men would rather, say, set up a national historical lecture speaking tour than go to therapy...
But I'd rather write a whole book than clear out my inbox so who am I to talk.
Last, I love pests. I love rats. Trash pandas. Litter puppies. Snakes. Pigeons, sparrows, gulls.
If it bothers people? I love it. Because I love what it says about us. (What it says? Our priorities are BIZARRE)
