@Dendrochronicle I don’t have Ladies Walking Field on this map, but I have found a 1960s photo of it on the excellent http://www.poolehistory.org.uk

This has completely baffled me, I don’t know which direction I’m looking in, I wonder if that’s possibly the big factory chimney in Lake Road in Hamworthy I can see in the background?

@Dendrochronicle I’m familiar with that one and its church, my mother taught there briefly when we moved here from London in the 80s and I have friends who went there too 🙂 I never knew there was an older church and school of the same name; it’s sad how much of the old town has gone, there are some beautiful bits left but they’re very much in the minority now. I guess you must remember the old Arndale centre in its 70s heyday though, with the wooden animals and mosaics?
@Dendrochronicle How lovely, I’m guessing you went to the same primary school as my other half – it used to be a beautiful little Victorian building on the main road but sadly that was knocked down a few years ago and the school moved round the corner.
The view from my window right now 🌙

In the Argonautica, Jason famously travels to Colchis on a quest for the Golden Fleece, but where did this relic come from? Phrixus and Helle were the children of King Athamas of Boeotia and Nephele the cloud goddess. Their wicked stepmother Ino plotted to have them killed, but Nephele sent the magical golden ram Chrysomallos to rescue them. It flew them to Colchis, but Helle fell off along the way; the Hellespont sea strait was named for her #MythologyMonday

This is the Makapansgat pebble, and it's one of the oldest known human artefacts ever rediscovered. Around 3 million years ago, some ancient proto-human in Southern Africa discovered a cute rock which looks like a little face and decided to keep it, and I find that absolutely delightful!

When they did an x-ray of Henry Gillard Glindoni's painting of Elizabethan occultist/alchemist John Dee, they discovered that Dee was standing in a circle of human skulls...

It's said to be good luck to see a hawk on your way to a wedding because hawks never eat the hearts of other birds. #folklore
