#CHI2026

CHI 2026 takes place in Barcelona at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona. CHI 2026’s General Chairs are Nuria Oliver and David A. Shamma and the CHI 2026 Technical Program Chairs are Heloisa Candello, Pablo Cesar, and Pedro Lopes. The entire committee is excited to bring the conference to the Iberian peninsula for the first time and we look forward to engagements with the broader Mediterranean region.

We have a website up:

ACM CHI 2026 – Creant el demà junts • Barcelona, April 13–17, 2026

For #chi2026 we have opened a call for volunteers:

As the conference has been growing, the CHI Steering Committee (with input from many other CHI futures committees and a symposium that has been run over the years) put forth a new format for the conference (see: https://chi.acm.org/new-chi-format-to-launch-at-chi-2026/).

In short summary, technical program submissions will fall into six submission areas:
Papers
Panels
Meet up
Posters
Workshops
Interactive demos

For #chi2026 , the aim is to reduce the number of types of submissions and rename them to be more self-explanatory to simplify the conference program. We have explained the changes and historical background for the restructuring in detail. 2026 will be adding more guidance for authors and session organizers later.

CHI runs because of its volunteers. Chairs fill roles from papers to demos and from accessibility to family, it’s a massive community led operation. We invite you to join us!

For #chi2026 we want to announce this open call for volunteers!

If you’re new to CHI or conference organization or a long time volunteer, we want to hear from you. We have a call for volunteers form as we look for technical chairs (papers, panels, etc.) as well as organizational chairs (accessibility, diversity, web/design, etc.).

The call is open now, is easy to fill out, so please consider offering to volunteer.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GGHGP98 The call will be open until December 10th.

The CHI conference Steering Committee is seeking feedback on potential future CHI locations, to guide the decision for where #chi2028 or #chi2029 might be outside of the normal rotation, e.g. in the global south.

This post has more details https://chi.acm.org/chi-steering-committee-site-selection-consultation/ with links to further details on site selection and the survey itself which closes Nov 15th.

CHI'24 Panel: Sustainabilities & HCIs from the Souths

Addressing sustainability requires nuanced global perspectives; however, conversations on sustainability within CHI have traditionally been centered on the Global North. This online-only panel at CHI 2024 attempts to shift the focus to the Global Souths to nurture a more pluriversal perspective on sustainability by understanding the meaning, means, politics, implications, and rhetoric of sustainability from the standpoint of the Souths, amplifying voices that are often unheard and under-represented in HCI. The panel aims to draw a global CHI audience to have meaningful discussions, build a truly international community, and co-envision pathways to collectively address sustainability issues in/through HCI as they transcend geographical borders. This form is to curate questions prior to the panel.
