As a co-editor with (w/ @nicbidwell @robertsoden and Matthew Louis Mauriello), we launch this new ACM Interactions forum and invite submissions to showcase HCI research into climate change understanding, mitigation, and adaptation. This forum aims to advance a more global discourse in the field on how we can best contribute to climate action. 🌎 ✨

If you have questions or would like to propose an article, please email: Climate4Change@interactions.acm.org.

Honored to co-author this article, reflecting on our individual and collective experiences of conducting sustainability research to advocate for establishing “multifaceted-disciplinary” research teams with racial, sociocultural, & economic diversity to deepen justice considerations in sustainability research toward building sustainable and humane futures for all: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isci.2024.110439

CHI'24 Panel: Sustainabilities & HCIs from the Souths

Addressing sustainability requires nuanced global perspectives; however, conversations on sustainability within CHI have traditionally been centered on the Global North. This online-only panel at CHI 2024 attempts to shift the focus to the Global Souths to nurture a more pluriversal perspective on sustainability by understanding the meaning, means, politics, implications, and rhetoric of sustainability from the standpoint of the Souths, amplifying voices that are often unheard and under-represented in HCI. The panel aims to draw a global CHI audience to have meaningful discussions, build a truly international community, and co-envision pathways to collectively address sustainability issues in/through HCI as they transcend geographical borders. This form is to curate questions prior to the panel.

Post-growth HCI Co-Envisioning HCI Beyond Economic Growth

Our paper "Post-growth Human-Computer Interaction" with @neha and Bonnie Nardi on orienting HCI to after/beyond unjust and unsustainable economic growth politics is now available in the ACM DL: https://doi.org/10.1145/3624981

We now invite HCI to embrace post-growth ideas, engage, critique, and leverage them to ideate and innovate transformative HCI practices towards technology-mediated just and sustainable change.
