APRSdroid is an Android application for Amateur Radio operators. It allows reporting your position to the #APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) network, displaying of nearby amateur radio stations and the exchange of APRS messages.

Working on a proof-of-concept bridge from #DMR SMS to #XMPP chat and vice-versa.

Below demo uses a Hytera HP785 DMR radio and a PinePhone with Dino as messenger software.

Still have alot to learn about XMPP and various XEP (protocol extensions).

Arrived at #FOSDEM and brought #DIDay flyers to the #XMPP stand. Find me in building AW (rear side, in the Realtime Lounge) and ask me about @yaxim or @aprsdroid
Want to get an amateur radio license? You can at #fosdem2026
Anyone willing to get their American license can register. What purpose does it serve in Europe, since you cannot use it here? With all three levels of the license, it can be converted back into a European one!
You can prep the exam on hamstudy.org
You’ll need an FCC FRN number. If you have a US address (a relative, etc): bit.ly/3M355IY .If you don’t, reach out to us.
Drop by in the #amateurradio infoboot at #FOSDEM
On the road and I'm still getting PR review requests...

🎇 APRSdroid is back on the Google Play store 🎊

We got delisted for not fulfilling Google's new security requirements as of Android 15 (yeah, we are a bit late)

Additional changes:
- updated APRS symbols from @oh7lzb
- fixed Conversations view to show the *newest* and not the *oldest* message, tnx NA7Q
- build system now uses scalaAndroid by @scala_lang

Happy holidays!

APRSdroid - APRS Client - Apps on Google Play

Amateur Radio app for APRS: Track friends, exchange messages, get tactical info.

This is the most important project in Amateur Radio today. It will bring us the capability of doing so many more things, and free us from the dumb radios with burned-in firmware that most of us use.

Who is helping? Who _isn't_ helping?

LoRa is awesome! This is the longest path my Lora-APRS gateway received a packet yet - 322 km on mere milliwatts of transmit power!

📡 TinyWSPR: Open-Source Silicon for Shortwave

We (JKU Linz and JMU Würzburg) built a fully WSPR-capable TX on open-source silicon (TT-Sky25b via @tinytapeout ). A digital subsystem generates symbols; an analog RF chain performs IQ modulation. FPGA tests already reached central Europe with just 10 mW on 40 m. Now we’re waiting for the chip from the fab for the first on-air tests 🤩.

this demonstration was at very close range (~10m) using close to the fastest LoRA preset possible using this hardware: Bandwidth 500KHz, Spreading Factor 5, Coding Rate 5 (4 is less redundant, therefore faster)

what if I told you that you could do Ethernet over LoRA?
