A good critique of MacOS new menu icons https://tonsky.me/blog/tahoe-icons/

It highlights @scottjenson 's point from https://youtu.be/1fZTOjd_bOQ?si=eBP04-Yp3Z1Qf_Wm on how desktop UX keeps getting worse, not better.

It’s hard to justify Tahoe icons

Looking at the first principles of icon design—and how Apple failed to apply all of them in macOS Tahoe

A digital dark age? The people rescuing forgotten knowledge trapped on old floppy disks

From lectures by Stephen Hawking to the letters of British politician Neil Kinnock – it's a race against time to save the historical treasures locked away on old floppy disks.

The Power Macintosh G2 Cube shown here with the higher-end 75Mhz PPC603, memory slot, and LC-PDS compatible expansion was an addition to the Macintosh family.

Reclaimed the lab today 😱🧹🕷️🕸️🕷️🕸️

The cool weather inspired a windows-open vacuum, clean and semi-organize. There was still some stuff setup from #marchintosh, only 6 months later 😅

Storing keyboards in bins freed up a lot of space and stacking the CRTs on top of those towers also saved space and my back! A treat to see the floor again 😁

The main presentation is a little cheesy, but one of the bonus resources was this deck with Success Stories of some of Apple's biggest customers (at the time), including a pretty detailed description of their exact setups.

Interesting window into how all this vintage stuff was used in its heyday!

Being from 1990, it expects System 6.0.3 (ideally with MultiFinder disabled).

Basilisk can't run System 6 (without mods) and Mini vMac can't read UDIF images. So I had to use Basilisk to copy the files onto a blank DSK image to run them on the Mac II version of Mini vMac (running System 7.0).

Given that this has to be my favourite Hartmut Esslinger/frog design prototype for Apple, I am in awe.

Design, 3D printing, electronics, custom mechanical keyboard, everything packed neatly, the workflow. This is *insane* work. 😮‍💨

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival really is one of my favorite ways to spend a week of vacation.

Seeing five shows a day! Comedy, musicals, circus, mime, people being great at what they do! People being bad at what they do but doing it anyway!

It’s a good time.
