Dear #cycling nerds: we're thinking of selling our #Bakfeits and buying a new electric model. What should we know about the options?

Currently we're looking at a #Babou or a #Tern, but are happy to entertain alternatives. We've got one 4 year old and no car, living in (reasonably) bike-friendly Cambridge.

What's your experiences?

The reason Mastodon and the Fediverse is spread out on so many servers is it protects it from being taken over by anyone. Not even the richest can buy this place.

Centralised services like Twitter are incredibly easy to buy out. If you move from Twitter to another centralised service, sooner or later that will get bought out too.

I've posted this before elsewhere, but I'll share here on #biketooter: One year after American entry into WWII, this cover reflects several realities; the stylish woman is taking her tree home, without a car in sight. @sarahfrumento I was thinking about this too. So many people are frustrated and give up before starting here because it isn't as seamless as a multi-billion dollar website where we're the product, but sometimes a tiny bit of extra effort can yield so much benefit. It's hard to get out on the bike when it is snowing, for example, but the peace and silence are unparalleled. I like it here.

@llebrun I understand your point about not discouraging new people, but it also bears repeating that people have not only the option of finding another server, but also of creating servers as safe spaces on an organizational basis with specific rules/moderation to suit the accounts it hosts. I would suggest that it is less "a huge problem for Mastodon" than a problem for any online community which we've seen addressed very poorly in the corporate social networks. At least there are options here.
