The @OpenScienceNL budget will be cut in half if the plans that were announced today by our government go through.

While cuts in science are being made across the board, this reduction is disproportionate and extremely disappointing.

We urge the minister and Parliament to seriously reconsider these cuts. Addressing today’s and tomorrow’s major societal challenges simply cannot be accomplished with closed science.

Open Science NL budget cut by half: 'The transition to open science is as important as ever' | Open Science NL

'This reduction of the budget by half is a severe blow to open science. Successive Dutch governments have rightly invested in making science more accessible, transparent, and collaborative. Coupled with the other funding reductions, this drastic cut threatens to erode the country's hard-won advancements and leadership in the field.’

Call to Commitment: Future-proof OA Publishing

In March 2024, during the Open Science Retreat in Schoorl, NL, participants came together to discuss a new ‘Narrative for sustainable Open Access’. This resulted in the following Call to Commitment, which can be endorsed by those interested in the future of Open Access in the Netherlands. If you want to add your name as

Brilliant minds gave perspectives about coordinating scientific quality control in practice 1) for promotions & getting tenure, 2) at journals during pre- and post-publication stages, and 3) in error detection projects. How do you think our community can organize to repair and prevent scientific errors? w/ Peder Isager,

Ever had really great discussions during an (un)conference or hackathon and went home thinking others could also benefit from the ideas that were bounced around? Inspired by @siminevazire‘s garage analogy, we thought about how to coordinate and select works for quality check-ups, aiming for scientific self-correction. One of the best workshops I attended last year was one on modular thinking in research, and modular publishing with ResearchEquals.com, by @JanuschkaSchmidt
Find slides here if you have FOMO: https://www.researchequals.com/modules/kjp9-g898 Sketchnote shows my considerations for which parts of research could be a module... how about showing the derivation chain research journey on #ResearchEquals @annescheel? #openscience #modularpublishing #OpenScienceCommunity
Publishing research output continuously : The case of modular publishing (PROCess)

In this interactive workshop, I explore modular publishing as a new and alternative publishing format. Moreover, I will discuss with participants a modular approach to research, examine some benefits it can offer, and learn how to put it into practice. This are the slides for this interactive workshop designed to progress participants' knowledge and skills in academic research and publishing.
