Steve Jobs would've LOVED this look. (It's not far from certain aspects of Aqua!)

But he also provided a stronger editing role to his designers in the name of usability. (not a perfect one, but a stronger one!)

I don't know who, if anyone, has that role over Dye's team today.

Most consumer-tech companies have a head of product, or a product-minded CEO. Not today's Apple. Seems like Joz is closest in role, but does he have the clout to override design? (I'd guess not.)

Breakfast is being served in the cabin by the lovely sleeping car attendant. We pass a future #Stadler #Kiss #Cityjet, awaiting delivery to ÖBB and, later on, Lake Zurichsee.

Good morning, Berlin! European Sleeper verdict: meh. Cons: the sleeping bag feels weird, for the first time in my life I felt too tall, waking up at 5:45 is no fun.
Pros: traaaaain, it's old and cute, temperature was ok, it was very safe. Also, no border controls 🎉 #CrossBorderRail
Two Elections: "The rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check" - emptywheel

There were two elections last week. A traditional political one, in which Democrats had some down ballot successes. And a far bigger propaganda one, in which Trump -- but not always the rest of his party -- had tremendous success.

Had a nice long bath and thought through the icky feeling I get about using LLMs for knowledge or comms. I think it's that they're deeply conservative authoritarian: Can only use the past as reference, lock in inequalities and confidently state "facts", with no way to question or appeal. They fundamentally cannot envision an improved society or help us create one, they can only enforce what we have. And anyone who uses one with communication is embedding that way of thinking between us.
A new era dawns. America’s tech bros now strut their stuff in the corridors of power

The era that began with the Great Disruptor’s first term is over. Beware the emerging elite
