Pictures of AMPA receptors at synapses from Axel Brunger's lab. By averaging a lot of tomogram images, they could discern scaffolding molecules bound to the complexes.

These in situ images are lower resolution than purified protein, but retain the native organization and place the receptors somewhat at the side of vesicular docking sites.

Not exactly news, but the Allen Brain Atlas is amazing. Finding some random protein, trawling through Pubmed for papers, but a few clicks now I know it is in the mouse Cerebellum.

For the mouse brain map. their Mac application requires OSX 10.6.8 (!!!) and crashes quite readily so the Web is probably better....

Very interesting structures of the GluN1/N3 variant NMDA receptor from Michalski and Furukawa. Unprecedented 80º rotation of the GluN3 subunit into a desensitised conformation, which could be disrupted by mutation.

Cryo-ET of the SC-CA1 hippocampal connection from Eric Gouaux group. Nice confirmation that GluA2 N-terminus is closer to the pre-synapse than to the post-synapse!
