New boards arrived with silk made in #gerbolyze from a sheet of patterned #origami paper. The silkscreen covers the mostly empty bottom layer, with the top silk containing all component references. The footprint in the middle is a socket for a Würth WR-WST direct-to-board connector that I'm starting to use as a much cheaper and more convenient alternative to the offerings of Tag-Connect.

In which I learned that the Linux model of how memory in C works is not identical to what the compiler thinks how memory works, and people write their thesis about a tool that proves Linus' brogrammer attitude about this never occuring in kernel code is just wrong. https://youtu.be/ad-75tViBm4

#Klimakollaps halt.

The story I wrote about a backdoor in a TETRA radio standard used by police/military/critical infrastructure for radio communications, got lots of interest yesterday, with many people calling out ETSI for keeping the encryption algorithms secret. I decided to publish my entire interview with Brian Murgatroyd of ETSI so readers can see his justifications for doing this, as well as his responses to other things we discussed. I think you'll find some of his responses surprising

Interview with the ETSI Standards Organization That Created TETRA "Backdoor"

Brian Murgatroyd spoke with me about why his standards group weakened an encryption algorithm used to secure critical radio communications of police, military, critical infrastructure and others.

Ok, new plan to get to a rating of 400: stop blundering my queen. #chess

From my archives... this is what the command center of a mid-1990s dialup ISP looked like.

Later iterations would be more advanced, but this is how it started. A natural progression and leap of faith from the multi-line BBS it replaced.

Kudos to all the librarians holding the line against fascism. 👏🏾

NYT:
They Checked Out Pride Books in Protest. It Backfired.

Ms. Peterson … was taken aback when she read an email last month from two neighborhood residents. They informed her that they had checked out nearly all of the books in the Pride display and would not return them unless the library permanently removed what they considered “inappropriate content.”

San Diego Library Protest Against Pride Books Draws a Backlash

Two San Diego residents cleared out the Pride month display at their library and said such materials shouldn’t be available to children, one of several recent clashes over L.G.B.T.Q. issues in California.
